About this tool
Exam, job and government portals often say "photo must be under 50 KB" or "upload a JPG below 100 KB". Phone photos are usually 2 to 5 MB, so they get rejected. This tool works backwards from your limit: it keeps the same width and height and finds the highest JPG quality that still fits. Only if that is not enough does it make the image slightly smaller, step by step, and it tells you exactly what changed.
PNG and WEBP images are converted to JPG with a white background, which almost every form accepts. If your JPG is already under the limit, you get it back unchanged. If the form also asks for exact pixels, use the exam photo and signature resizer instead.
Frequently asked questions
Will the width and height change?
Not if we can avoid it. We first lower the JPG quality. Only when even low quality is too big, the image is made smaller in steps (90%, 80% and so on), and the result message shows the new size in pixels.
What if my image is already small enough?
If it is a JPG under your limit, you get the original file back unchanged, with a note. PNG and WEBP files are still converted to JPG.
Can I compress a signature to 10 KB or 20 KB?
Yes. Choose "Under 20 KB" or type 10 in Custom. Signatures on white paper compress very well.
Why is the file a little smaller than my limit?
Some portals count 1 KB as 1000 bytes and others as 1024 bytes. We stay under the stricter one, so the file is accepted either way.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
